It’s this time of the year where you get stuck in traffic going to the mall, get your 60 inch TV stolen by the guy just in front of you at best buy despite waiting in line 24 hr on black Friday and questionable Christmas game that wouldn’t get any mention if they weren’t Christmas theme.

Like last year (oh shit 2013, like 3 year ago I mean), I’m looking at some Christmas game that caught my attention this holiday season.

XmasStory

Merry Christmas from Horace on the ZY System.

But not only is Horace back but so are the enemies, and it’s down to you to collect all the presents dropped by Father Christmas, and to try to avoid being hit or falling between the carriages. So all you have to do is to jump as high as you can, collect all the presents and it’s a level completion through each of the 49 screens.

Zombo’s Christmas Capers! – A new festive ZX Spectrum game

Nothing beat a good Christmas like a good Christmas zombie game. Get your chance to play a zombie in the most wonderful time of the year. Zombo the Zombie must help Santa  ( or the government I’m not sure) collect present. Boot up your ZX Spectrum emulator and get that zombie some holiday spirit.

Hope you liked you little holiday suprise. I haven’t found much more any new and interesting other that these 2 4-bit gems. I’ll keep a eye for you if anything come up.

I’m happy to learn that Final Fantasy IV sequel, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, will be released on steam on May 12th.

Personally Final Fantasy IV, one of the most cherished game of my childhood. I loved the game so much that sometime at school I would plan in my notebook I would rise my level to beat those mad ogres to get that elixir chest sooner, even though I wouldn’t use that elixir before the final battle. So I’m happy it’s coming to steam but if you are following my channel you know that it’s already available on mobile.

The After Years follows the original cast 17 year after Final Fantasy IV ended. There are with some additional characters that are introduced including Cecil and Rosa son. It received the same 3D remake that Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV received on the Nintendo DS & iOS.

If you’re a fan of the first and you want to play it on your PC, this game is a definitive grab.

Final Fantasy V & IV The After Years: back on tablet and mobile

I’ve completely forgot to write about Dragon Quest VI when It’s came out. I’ve written about Dragon quest VIII  probably the best available dragon quest (and rpg in general) on tablet, we talked about Dragon quest I & II which are both great game and Dragon quest III is on the way (released in japan not elsewere)

The fourth installment of dragon quest, Dragon quest IV: Chapter of the chosen, is very different from other dragon quest in the way the story is structured. You play different chapter to learn about the story of each of your characters until chapter 5, which is basically 80% of the game, where (spoiler alert) you reunite with all of them. Another welcoming addition the introduction of the wagon. Everything else the game is pretty similar to the others except that you can’t change classes like in DQ III.

If you don’t want to be spoiled, go buy it and play it immediately on itune, Google play, Nintendo DS or on the old school nes. If you don’t mind move along.

The first chapter is the shortest Ragnar a fighter who need to investigate the missing children for the king and they go on to find the chosen one.
The second Chapter is about a rebel princess named Alena that want to prove her strength. The third chapter is with Tonerko, a merchant that wants to build is own shop. The fourth chapter is with two sisters, Meena and Maya, that seeking revenge for the death of their father. The final chapter (in the original game) is with the chosen hero who will travel the world to find the characters from the previous chapters and legendary gear to defeat the evil Psaro.

The recent remake of the game include a sixth chapter, where you discover more of the story of Psaro & Rose and who the bad guy really is. You can to be able to have Psaro join you to fight that new bad guy (I don’t want to spoil you to much). Note that Psaro is freakingly OP compare to the other characters, only the hero seems to be not so bad compare to him.

Note: since it’s an old school RPG, expect a lot of random encounter, if you’re playing a recent version they are tuned down a bit but still annoying.

Free Online Gaming gone crazy (Indiesretronews)

Zelda & Link caught my attention this week. Remember Zelda: Adventure of Link in 3d, this time it’s someone who made a fan game base on the style of play of second installment of Zelda instead of having a different take on the same game. The other article is an unlikely crossover that will probably interest you, keep on reading you’ll understand .

Legend Of Zelda: The Last Oracle

Zelda is know for it’s distinct style either the 3D third person format from Ocarina or the top down perspective 2D format from the initial game. But that leave Zelda II: Adventure of Link as the odd ball of the series that tried to bring Zelda has a platformer in a time where platformer was the thing. A fan decided to revive that era by creating a game inspired by that style and gave birth to Legend of Zelda: the last oracle.

The game is in development but you can see it’s really have a nice polish to hit bringing the old style with more modern artwork.

8 Bits Fun

Oh 8 bit is more of your thing. Fear not the recent NES JAM gave birth to a dozen of nice 8-bit gem (and other not that much of a gem)

Super Cell Dungeon

One of the notable entry is Super Cell Dungeon, Super Cell Dungeon developed by a multi-talented team and a recent #NESJAM entry, is a NES inspired clone of Super Crate Box that can be played in a two player team.

Lognes Island

A actually really nice teaser of a game a developer is thinking about doing. You play a mega man like character lost on an island. You have to search the island for power up like a blaster and double jump. Once you found the boss for the first level the teaser is done. Check the dev on twitter and ask him to do more.

Gracie & Mike – Interstellar Mercenary Exterminators

A Co-op Contra but in split screen is probably the best way to describe this game. You can only play 2 players or 1 player control 2 players. The game can be played on xbox and ps3 controllers or with the keyboard.

Ouragan

This one is kind of weird there a bunch of guy hitting you but you don’t seem to lose health. You can hit them with Z and they get thrown into the sky with a single punch.

Archeomania  – A Tetris look alike where you save the princess

Another nice puzzle game in 8-bit greatly inspired by Tetris. You get the bloc similar to Tetris but instead of pilling them to make more point when you clear them out, you need to clear the line to save the green girl. Once you clear all the line under her you save her, they’re spike that slowly move toward you, if they manage to hit the princess before you clear all the block under her, she done and it’s game over for you.

I wrote awhile ago about how Google incorporated Pac-Man with their logo (their Doodle) for the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man.

I’ve seen some interesting Pac-man version and project since then so I’ve decided to write a little something about it.

Twitch Play Pacman

A Twitch-based experience similar to PokemonPlaysTwitch was created recently only with a Pac-man game re-geared as a massive 2-player game.

Both channels allow viewers to input movement commands. One channel command Pac-man, the other Binky, the Pac-man team eat pills while staying away from blink  and the other channel control Binky to chase Pac-man down and eat him up…

By the way, I’m now on twitch follow me to see my abysmal talent playing Faster than light, Starcraft2 and other game. Specially indies, I’ll try to see if I can screen grab the game I write about here and show them on my stream.

I found something pretty neat awhile ago, I might already posted it but I’m posting it anyway.

If you’re fan of game in general you probably the gaming icon of Nintendo, Mario. A video series called THE FOUR PLAYERS take some familiar gaming icons in a bold new way. Here, THE FIXER decides he can’t let things stay broken any longer.

Here, THE ADDICT receives a reminder from his past that forces him to rethink his present.

Like our friend at KillScreenDaily say, These are not guys you’d want to run into in a back alley. But it really cool, fun (and dark) take on a old franchise.

After Contrat another 8-bit Nintendo classic is coming to mobile, the Double Dragon Franchise is back with 3 time the fun.

Yes it’s back and the package will include three full games: the original Double Dragon, Double Dragon 2: The Revenge, and Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone.

I remember having a lot of fun with this game playing coop with friends. Luckily, there is a coop mode via Bluetooth, you’ll be able to grab a friend and help Billy and Jimmy beat the hell out of the turf of the Black Warriors gang again.
