FINAL FANTASY Record Keeper

. . . there was a kingdom. Its glory was measured in magic and art,and above all else, stories.

The records of the Great Chronicle are the foundation of all order and balance.

To preserve these stories, the record keepers used powerful magic to bind them in paintings of great beauty.

The Opera House, Midgar, Zanarkand . . .

All these records of stories past were kept safe within the Royal Archives.

Until one day a dark force clouds the magical tapestries and you are tasked with entering the tapestries to reenact historical events from the various Final Fantasy games.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper is an iOS/Android game where you must replay the event of the game (only the battle actually) with characters from old final fantasy games. You build your team from all the characters you recruited and  equip them to either venture in the dungeon of each Final Fantasy or do the daily event (ginding) to get extra exp, gold, orbs and sometime your can do special event, that give big reward like new characters, lv break, rare equipment and ability.

The combat system is the old school ATB where your character can attack when the ATB gauge is filled.

Your Team

Building your team is the fun part, You get to create a party of your liking from your favorite characters and have them fight against enemies from different games. However getting equipment and abilities can be tedious at best.

Equipment is found either in dungeon (cheap equipment) or in relic draw, where your spend your precious mithril to get the real stuff.  Abilities are created and honed via the orbs you find while doing battle and event. Less frustrating than equipment to get but higher level orb are so rare and you need so much that it seems to take forever to have a decent 4 time level 5 ability.

Each character have different level of ability they can use, character from actual Final Fantasy game tend to be better than generic class. For example, my Lulu at level 36 at more magic power than a level 50 black mage.

Grinding in dungeons and event with your precious stamina

The game use the same social game gimmicky stamina systems, where you need to come back later when your stamina is empty. You can increase stamina by doing regular and elite dungeons. On the other hand, Event will get you character, equipment, orbs and material.

FINAL FANTASY Record Keeper battle

My personal impression

I’m actually hook because of the nostalgia, but the game get really tedious quickly. Honestly if it’s wasn’t Final Fantasy I would have drop it awhile ago. It’s require so much grinding, and the only way to obtain go items is by using the relic draw with mithril or gem (paid currency). I actually was able to have a decent character by getting Red XII ultimate weapon with the trine soul break. He was in every team until I manage to build other characters.

Verdict

For FF fanboy/girl: Play it

Others: Stay away…

Final Fantasy Agito is a free-to-play RPG that sees you playing an elite member of a school.

The game launched in the Japanese App Store just last month. This week Square Enix  answered that it’s coming out worldwide on their blog. No specific date has been set, but they say the North American release is "soon" and have released a new trailer of the game.

I’ve haven’t had the chance to play the game but you can check the video promo and touch arcade review.

Final Fantasy VI

For those who don’t know one of my favorite game of all time Final Fantasy VI is out on android and iOs. It come out with “improved” graphic and hopefully with the extra goodies of the gameboy advance version (Dragon Den’s, new espers, etc)

I’m big fan of this game, I’ve even recently finished the gameboy advance version. I find that the game might be a big expensive at 15.99$ for a mobile game, but If you think about it the original game was around 60$.

Dragon Sky: Final Fantasy meet Clash of Titan

It seems that Square Enix is going to be inspired by Supercell’s Clash of Clans with its upcoming RTS Dragon Sky.
from the few images we got it seems that their mixing the artwork familiar Final Fantasy-loving crowd with the base-raiding gameplay of CoC, Dragon Sky has a lot going on.
It’s even have Final Fantasy XI composer Naoshi Mizuta attached to the project.

A large portion of Dragon Sky will focus on multiplayer battles and cooperative raid boss instances, but there is also a single-player campaign that doles out the story behind the events of the world.

Final Fantasy V

Final Fantasy V will make its way to Android on September 26.

If you’re a fan of Final Fantasy or JRPG that a great news, Final Fantasy V  was actually a really good game back in the 90’s but never made it to the snes. We had to wait for a re-release on the Playstation to enjoy it. The game wills have updated graphics and character portraits while retaining the 16-bit aesthetic of the original.

If you never played Final Fantasy V, but played some other of the series, you will fin that the most notable difference is the job system. You can freely select a job for each characters and the characters can learn skill from the job he has and you can change it when you want. There was a total of 22 jobs in the original 26 in the gameboy advance version. Let hope they will give us the lasted update.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, is a follow-up game to Final Fantasy IV that was first released on mobile phones in Japan back in 2008. In 2009 it was reworked and released for WiiWare, and even appeared on the PSP in 2011 as part of Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection.

The After Years follows the original cast 17 year after Final Fantasy IV finished. There are with some additional characters that are introduced including Cecil and Rosa son. It received the same 3D remake that Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV  received on the Nintendo DS & iOS.

If this version is anything like the version release in japan, The game play will pretty similar and will include some nice combat feature like the new “Band” ability that are similar to the Double and Triple Tech in Chrono Trigger. Band abilities are extremely powerful, and there was over 70 different combinations in total in the Japanese version.

The game is expected to be released this winter.

Mashup of scrabble + simcity = verbocity

Here a game with a really cool concept it puts together the word game genre (like scrabble) and the city building genre (like simcity). You build buildings which cover an area and you get the letter under the area. To build another building you must have the letter to build the given building. If you want to build a “house” you must have all the letter in the word house.

And there is a little  extra twist you must balance between population, job and fun (recreational) building to get extra value for your town. verbocity

So far here are the word I’ve found :

House, hut, park, mine, factory, stadium, arena, statue, tower, skyscraper, condo, zoo, pub, bar, club, museum, court, barrack, field, townhall, dump.

Scrounger: another Zombie game

Another zombie game that caught my eye with his retro style.

The game play is actually really fun even though the controls are squishy and that you sometime was ammo for no reason. You got from room to room collecting ammo and food. You can shoot the zombie but there is more zombie than ammo so it’s better  to run from them most of the time. You clear an area when you collect everything or kill all the zombie.

Final Fantasy mobile news

Not browser related since I’ve already wrote about final fantasy tactics in the past there some new here.

There’s an update for final fantasy tactic, new graphic, new animation, support for the iCloud and it’s half off woohoo 🙂

Click here for more info from toucharcade

Another Free final fantasy tactic is out in japan on iOs, we don’t know if there will be a release elsewhere in the world but I hope it will.

It seems it has the race and class from Final Fantasy tactic Advance 2 on the DS, which I’ve loved, but the combat system seems much simpler missing the tactical advantage of moving around the terrain and going behind your enemy back.
You can check out the trailer :

Finally if you are a Fan of the final fantasy series there a talk next week (june 11th 2013) about the future of the franchise.

World of Tank: from free to play to free to win

Wargaming the maker of Word of tank, has made a announcement that it won’t give in game advantage making the game “more equal” for paying/non-paying user.

From the article :

“Free-to-play games have the challenge of being sometimes viewed as low quality, and we want World of Tanks to serve as proof that a quality and balanced free-to-play game is possible. However, breaking down deeply-rooted stereotypes is no easy task.”

Castlot – Close beta and new server

battle vs dragon

The beta server as closed a few hours ago but if the beta server is closings that mean the first official server is coming.

Yoogame didn’t wasted much time and released there first server today at 7h00 (March 28, 2012 PDT)

I played a bit in the beta and I can say that it’s mix of MMORTS with heroes duels and mission. The tutorial and quest system really help to pick up the game. Give it a try.
