Stranger Things: The Game

You’ve probably heard of that show that was pretty popular on Netflix. You know the one that a mix of horror movie with a zest of 80’s nostalgia.
Yeah that one 😀

The game has recently had an update when the season 2 came out and it’s pretty solid. First no ads, no micro transaction, no stamina that force you to comeback later.
The game play is a mix of Zelda most notably The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, old point and click adventures and a SNES/80’s style. Because the game is only playable on touch screen devices, game mechanics have been heavily simplified: everything from character movement, to combat, to inspecting and activating items can be achieved by tapping the screen. The game uses a 16-bit art style and is played in an overhead view. There are two game modes: Normal and Classic. In Classic mode, players are returned to the beginning of dungeons upon death, and enemies respawn even after dungeons have been completed.

You start has Hopper and you wander around hawking freeing the other kids, each time you save or found a character they’ll usually join you and each character have a special ability that will help you progress and unlock new dungeons. Most of the characters from the series are there, you get to play Hopper, who’s the only one that cans go in the underworld, Lucas, who throws rock with is slingshot, Nancy with a baseball bat that breaks things, Mike and is bike,  Will, who can crawl in pipe,  Dustin, he distracts enemies with pudding, El and her psychic blast and Max (from season 2) who throw coins.

If you grew up in the 80s, you’ll love this game, but what’s even more amazing is the fact anyone who likes video games, new or old, will like playing this game.
This game is fun and engrossing. It’s smooth and the controls are perfect.
There a lot of old school throwback, in the setting, the gameplay, the graphics and the sound!  It really does take you back to old school NES/SNES games but without compromising the play or graphics.

You couldn’t expect more from a paid game, let alone this free game.

Awhile ago I’ve wrote about that China have opened it’s border to foreign gaming console.

And I’ve stumbled into a video that explain (a bit) the states of gaming in china.

Hope you like it.

Crusader Kings II

If you liked my Crusader King 2 review back in 2016 and you want to play it for peanuts with a good DLC (the old gods to boot, the best CK2 dlc) and want an extra 7 with it (6 if you pay just above the average) this bundle is for you.

For a mere $1 you get Cities in Motion, Magicka 2, and the Majesty 2 Collection.

Paying more than the average adds the marvelous Crusader Kings 2 with The Old Gods DLC to the package,  Pillars of Eternity, Europa Universalis 3 Complete Edition, and the Hearts of Iron 3 Collection.

Ok Europa Universalis & Hearts of Iron are at their 4th installment and the bundle only give the 3rd which make it a little disappointing since I really wanted the 4th edition of Hearts of Iron. But, hey, you pay like 1,50$ for each game so don’t has for too much. Considering I’’ve poured 50$ in DLC for Europa Universalis IV and Crusader king 2 each this bundle is a bargain.

And if you pay 12$ you get the one most recent game of the list (2016) Stellaris with a staggering 8 major update. If you like strategy game in space that one is for you.

It’s a really cool bundle even though some of the game are really old.

Give it a try by checking the The Humble Paradox Bundle 2018 on the humble bundle site.

I don’t even get commission so trust me on the one. I’ve referred so much humble bundle maybe I should check if they have affiliate link or something.

A friend pointed to me how to get some free steam key online. Everyone love free stuff and probably you too.

If you’ve liked my previous entry about Buzz Aldrin space program or you’re a big fan of Kerbal Space program or you dream of setting foot on mars and managing everyone then the Initiative: Red Dawn project on kickstarter is for you.

Initiative: Red Dawn is an "Elon Musk simulator". It’s a game about building and growing your aerospace company and making human life interplanetary. More than 30 people at NASA, SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, Blue Origin, etc, are already part of the game as technical advisors and content creators, and they’ll also be represented in-game as hirable NPCs (Talents).

Apart from that, Initiative will allow you to:

  • Reshape the future of mankind by becoming the first to establish a self-sustainable colony on Mars
  • Become a famous strategic and political leader by leading our ladder system
  • Steal technology, sabotage buildings and even poach other player’s Talents
  • Discover advanced technologies to build rockets and planetary modules
  • Mine asteroids from your Moon outpost and perform advanced experiments on your space station

At the time of this writing, they are halfway to the 55000$ mark of making the project, give them a hand and contribute to the project before the kickstarter campaign end on September 22. You can get beta access, early access to the game and other goodies.

Gave it a look

Mario, Mario, Mario everywhere.

Mario

Super mario 3 – a new journey

Mario

You want to relive the good for the nes with some new Mario action. You’re in luck with A new path for super mario 3 – a new journey.

You need to have the super mario 3 rom and patch it, all the instructions are in the following link.

Once you’re done play the patched rom on the emulator of your choice and have fun

Other Super Mario – Super Mario on the Amiga.

Titled as Other Super Mario, this early project was started because the developer has always wanted Mario on the Amiga. Sadly as it’s just a project there is only a 1 level demo, there’s no game over sequence and the jumping is very floaty. As for if this is going to be a full project taking most of his time, this looks to be unlikely especially as he had said he may just add the odd level over time. For further details, see the discussion link here.

Super Mario Bros CPC

Unless you were living in a cave, many of you will remember the classic game that is ‘ Super Mario Bros ‘, that was produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and released by that famous company Nintendo in the late 80’s for the NES. It is an incredible platformer that has had many sequels and spin offs on different systems, ranging from the NES all the way up to the very modern console, the Wii U. Yet today a fan by the name of GinBlog82 has announced the latest update to the 80’s classic, over to the Amstrad CPC.

Note: This is a kind of mashup of all the recent Mario news I’ve found on IndieRetroNews, so you can go there to give them some love.

It’s this time of the year where you get stuck in traffic going to the mall, get your 60 inch TV stolen by the guy just in front of you at best buy despite waiting in line 24 hr on black Friday and questionable Christmas game that wouldn’t get any mention if they weren’t Christmas theme.

Like last year (oh shit 2013, like 3 year ago I mean), I’m looking at some Christmas game that caught my attention this holiday season.

XmasStory

Merry Christmas from Horace on the ZY System.

But not only is Horace back but so are the enemies, and it’s down to you to collect all the presents dropped by Father Christmas, and to try to avoid being hit or falling between the carriages. So all you have to do is to jump as high as you can, collect all the presents and it’s a level completion through each of the 49 screens.

RIP Three Kingdoms Online

Today is the day that Three kingdoms online is no more.

Three kingdom online was a little brother to me.I loved to play with you until he grows up a become a teen and started to get greedy.

corruption

Most people run away from him when this happen but I didn’t, I’ve just told him it’s not going to happen but we can still play together.

There a lot of good games that came after TKO, some even came after and closed before TKO (I’m looking at you Lord of Ultima)

If you have any games in the MMORTS genre that you want to suggest or anything related Romance of the Three kingdoms feel free to do so. I read every mail (jack at onlinesgamestips.com) and I might decide to write a piece on your game.

Check my initial reaction post to TKO closure or my 4 parts series on how I’ve build a bot to reduce my play time.

throne

We’ve talked about how to automate your game in part 1, how to build a bot with python with the sushi go tutorial in part 2 and the problem I’ve encountered in part 1 and 2 that I’ve fixed. Today, It’s a summary of what I’ve done (task and feature) to automate the game and make it more fun.

Side note, doing all this made the game much more fun to play since most of the boring stuff was automated or semi-automated.

The 12 automated tasks that made the game fun again… almost.

1-Upgrade all the tech (weapon, armor & valor)

I’ve already explained it in part 2. The reason I did this is because it was a pain to go in each city each 3 building and upgrading this should be automatic.

2- Upgrade resources fields

This is the main reason I’ve wanted to make a bot is to automate building new cities. I made a dumb cycle that check each resource field starting by the food field and going through all the resources.

This give funny situation where wood and iron are barely developed and farm and stone already have a lv 10. But the basic were enough to be useful.

3-Upgrade building

This one cover every building except warehouse and granary because these 2 are not accessible via the menu next to your ruler face.

4-Market place

I’ve already talked about this one in part 3. Go check my second problem.

5-Check if your in game

I’ve already talked about this one in part 3. Go check my first problem.

6- create a build list and use it to upgrade and send resources (Do point 1 to 4 all at once)

I’ve already talked about this one in part 3. Go check my third problem. Basically I’ve save the build in a file and when the bot is looking to upgrade building or resource, the build file tell him where to start. What is missing is a way to remember where he was the last time so he doesn’t always start at the same place, next game I guess.

7- City loop: loop all your cities with the point 6

Once you got a way to upgrade building, resources and tech for each city I’ve implemented a loop that do those 3 task for all your account city. Saving you precious time.

8-Attacking Captain with heroes

This is a great way to get experience so I made a loop that click on the captain until the captcha show up. When the captcha show up I usually enter it and the bot start again for the next ten heroes.

9-Amassing training point

Like previous point but with troop to get training point

10-Attacking a elite guard

This one is a bit harder, since it need to loop the map, everything else after is just checking if there an elite guard and attacking him like we do for the training point. The risk here is that we lose real troops when we do that, So its more semi-automated.

11-finding 15f

this one was on of the last I’ve done. I was tired of clicking on the map to find the 15f, so I made a task to click on the map and check the the type or terrain. It’s save the value in a shelve and add it to the map bookmark.

12-level up heroes

TKO is so  well design game UI wise (puke), it takes so many clicks to level up a hero that if you have many heroes it can take awhile. So the goal was to automate leveling the heroes on the heroes screen.

What I wanted to do next

I wanted to manage plundering, take care of the special event. From there I could probably run by it self. My ultimate goal would have been to manage war with it, that would require a way to read actual value on the screen. I could be done but by reading pixel by pixel or by having a proxy that gets the date from TKO when it send to it server and process information from it.

I hope you liked that series of post on how I’ve automated my playing experience. If you like it, drop me a email and I might do a bot for other games too.
