I’m a big Futurama fan and I came across two retro futurama game on indies retro news, both a work in progress hopefully a playable version soon. Here are our two contenders:

Futurama – The Adventure Game

The title is not the official one and the game is being Developed by Arjon van Dam on the MS-DOS group, with backdrops and no actual game play as of yet. Will be very similar to games such as Kings Quest and Space Quest but with text speech in a style of Lucasarts. So far many of the images are backdrop try outs, with many of the rooms being created from the TV series, such as the Planet Express Headquarters.

Futurama Professor Vetus I presume

Futurama Professor Vetus I presume have maniac mansion, king quest look from the 90s, The game will be free with around 100 playable rooms, open world with space travels, enemies, playable characters such as Fry and much more. It could well be the ultimate fan based adventure for Futurama fans across the globe. The game is currently being developed in Spanish but according to the dev blog it will be translated in English too.

How to get Kyu

Kyu is the sexy sex fairy that guide you through the game. After seeing you getting it on with other girl she want some piece of the action. Here how to get her.

To unlock Kyu you have to get five hearts on one girl and complete the sex mini-game on said girl unlocking their sex scenes. After this you will wake-up the next day and instead of being greeted by the person you’ve gotten’ laid with you will be greeted by Kyu, she will tell you that she wants to date you as well.

How to get Momo

Momo is a sweet cat girl that super playful, she ask all questions about cat and how to take care of them but where does she hide ? Turn out Momo is quite esoterical to get.

You need to buy the bag of goldfish from the gift store and when you’re at the park or beach, just throw it to the trash. When you leave to see another girl, Momo will appear, and ask if you want the fish. After a few dialogue options, say “I’d love to bring you home.” and she will be added to the huniebee. You can also pick one of the other choices, as the plot in this game is entirely railroaded.

How to get Celeste

Celeste is a celestial being (thus the name Celeste) who just want to hook up on earth, she all blue and like to talk about space. She actually the one I had the hardest time to get because it’s not really intuitive to found her.

First you need to get a weird device, you get the device when giving Kyu your porn magazine. Once you got the weird device, you need to go on a date with a girl on the beach at night with the device in your inventory. Once you try to leave, Celeste will appear.

How to get the goddess of love Venus

The goddess of love herself have noticed you and want to see what all the fuss is about. To get Venus to consider even showing up to meet you, you need to take each of the main girls home at least once, and she’ll automatically appear in your bedroom. She’ll then tell you that she is your “Final Challenge” and that you must prove yourself worthy of dating her (which no human has ever accomplished).

The kickstarter success Hunnie pop, is an adult game in which the objective is for your character to date and eventually bed up to ten (not counting hidden characters, Momo, Celest and the godly hot Venus) female anime-style women. There is some nudity and NSFW part (even in the steam version). If you have issue with that style of game or NSFW stuff, you should probably avoid it.

Ok so lets get to it ! Hunnie pop is a what happen when a puzzle game meet a dating sim with a pinch of RPG & NSFW element.

The plot yeah, they’re not much but here it is.

Your character start in a hotel bar during the night, when suddenly you are interrupted by Kyu "The love fairy". In short she explains that you’re pretty useless at picking up chicks and offers to help. The game has two part to it, the dating part, where you go out and meet girl, ask question about themselves, give them gif,  buy them food & drink. The other part happens when you ask the girls to go on a date, you are taken to a new scenery where how well you perform on your date is determine how you play a Candy crush/bejeweled style puzzle game.

It’s a typical match 3 where you to make rows of 3 or more "tokens" each of these have a different value depending on what girl you "out on a date" with. You can get special item that you use during the date to help you. Each successful date will increase the difficulty of the next puzzle that you are given. As you complete more and more dates the "Females" will send you random pictures of their daily routine, pretty normal stuff at first but those picture wills get more steamy after each successful date. Enjoy cute pictures with imaginative pose of them to picture of in the shower doing "naughty" things.

Your enjoyment of this game will ultimately boil down to how much you like games like Bejeweled since that’s really the main thrust of the game (no pun intended). The dating sim aspects are somewhat weak and mostly there to string together the various game levels for each girl and give you power ups. The story is probably the weakest part of the game, you don’t go much into knowing the girl except than filling a category in their profile. They are hidden character and yes you can bang the fairy.

Note that this game is one of the  "first game" that was funded via Kickstarter (It was Kickstarted back in November 2013) .  I was happily surprise of this game, and liked it’s adorable part, great art, and fantastic soundtrack and voice acting was worth the $10 I paid for it. Give it a try.

My friend have found this gem on steam this week and I just love it. And believe it or not you don’t have to buy it on steam, you can play it for free in your browser.

Town of Salem is a browser-based game base on the table top game Mafia and werewolf  were the challenge lie on using effectively your role, your deductions and your ability to lie convincingly to the other players. Of the 7 to 15 players and 29 roles (and more coming up) nobody know what roles other have each role have its fun way to play. Each Role is either in one of these alignments – Town, Mafia, Serial Killers, Arsonists and Neutrals and are randomly divided to the players. The Town members need to stop the mafia & other evil guys from killing everyone, mafia most eliminate other non mafia except the neutral and have the advantage of knowing which other player is mafia and talk at night but they are fewer in number.

How to play

Like explained before there is a day phase and a night phase. Most role operates at night some during the day (Like the mayor). During there is a discussion phase after something happen the night before, usually accusation and revelation happen there. Once the time is up for the discussion Town members (all players) can vote for whom to accused. If someone is accused and get enough vote he goes on trial (??) he has X second to defend himself and only him may speak. After that every other town member vote Guilty or innocent or they may abstain (which can be important if they lynch a jester). If the target is guilty they hang him (or another gruesome death) and is death note is reveal  were the player that was executed my leave a message to help is team.

Like I said before most roles are used during the night. At night, the mafia choose who to kill, frame, blackmail, etc. Serial killer, werewolf and arsonist chose there target too. Body guard can decide who to protect and can use a vest to protect himself once per night. Medium can takes that time to contact who was killed. Doctor can chose who to save. People that are killed during the night can leave there will like the one who died in trial.

Why I just love it ? because I used to play werewolf with my friend a lot a few year back and I always wished to be able to play online. Unfortunately you don’t have to body language and voice cue of a face to face table top game that can give away information. But there are other way to compensate that, roles give power to investigate name and the chat can give away cue, most mafia seem to lay low at the beginning or to accuse the wrong people.

I’ve completely forgot to write about Dragon Quest VI when It’s came out. I’ve written about Dragon quest VIII  probably the best available dragon quest (and rpg in general) on tablet, we talked about Dragon quest I & II which are both great game and Dragon quest III is on the way (released in japan not elsewere)

The fourth installment of dragon quest, Dragon quest IV: Chapter of the chosen, is very different from other dragon quest in the way the story is structured. You play different chapter to learn about the story of each of your characters until chapter 5, which is basically 80% of the game, where (spoiler alert) you reunite with all of them. Another welcoming addition the introduction of the wagon. Everything else the game is pretty similar to the others except that you can’t change classes like in DQ III.

If you don’t want to be spoiled, go buy it and play it immediately on itune, Google play, Nintendo DS or on the old school nes. If you don’t mind move along.

The first chapter is the shortest Ragnar a fighter who need to investigate the missing children for the king and they go on to find the chosen one.
The second Chapter is about a rebel princess named Alena that want to prove her strength. The third chapter is with Tonerko, a merchant that wants to build is own shop. The fourth chapter is with two sisters, Meena and Maya, that seeking revenge for the death of their father. The final chapter (in the original game) is with the chosen hero who will travel the world to find the characters from the previous chapters and legendary gear to defeat the evil Psaro.

The recent remake of the game include a sixth chapter, where you discover more of the story of Psaro & Rose and who the bad guy really is. You can to be able to have Psaro join you to fight that new bad guy (I don’t want to spoil you to much). Note that Psaro is freakingly OP compare to the other characters, only the hero seems to be not so bad compare to him.

Note: since it’s an old school RPG, expect a lot of random encounter, if you’re playing a recent version they are tuned down a bit but still annoying.

My dear readers, you all know my love for the rogue like space game FTL. I have to tell you, I’ve fallen in love with a other roguelike game. This time is a fantasy game free on Android and on PC called Pixel Dungeon.

Pixel Dungeon is a traditional roguelike game with pixel-art graphics and a simple interface. This game make me think of a very similar game (almost a clone of) Hack, slash, loot. Hack, slash, loot is a roguelike game like Pixel dungeon, however instead of just one dungeon you have a selection of adventure you can chose from, completing quest and dying will help you unlock characters (10 vs the 4 of pixel dungeon). Hack slash loot was released on steam and now it’s a paid app on the play store. 

The game is easy to play but very hard to win, it’s so random that it’s basically take more luck that skill. However the experience is enjoyable.

I’ve wrote about it awhile ago but now I’ve found how use the counter against each Power plays / Penalty killing tactic, thanks to generous soul on the ppm forum.

First remember that you want to at least get a decent % for your team for each or it might not matter if your are using a counter (a 100% passive box vs a 0% shooting from point might will probably be ok anyway)

Has a quick remember here the description  of all tactic (description from the guide):

Shooting from the point: This power play variant has two players at the blue line and their task is to shoot often with the player in front of the net trying to deflect the shots or pounce on the rebounds.

Umbrella: This power play has only one player on the point who works as the quarterback for the power play. His task is to deal passes to the players at the boards who may then shoot or pass the puck.

Overload: The purpose of this power play is to focus the attention of penalty killers on one side. This opens up room for one player on the weak side who can shoot the puck after it is fed to him.

Diamond: When you play diamond on the penalty kill, your players form a diamond shape. One player guards the area in front of the net and one player is closer to the blue line.

Passive box: Passive box means that penalty killers are keeping relatively close to each other to guard the area in front of the net and in the slot. This gives more room to the power play along the boards.

Active box: This option means that your penalty killers quickly close down on the players with the puck who then have less time to set up a power play combination. The disadvantage is, that this can open up the slot for the opponent.

FreeCol

FreeCol is a 2d open source remake of the original Sid Meier game Colonization on dos. You manage the colonist in the name of the Crown of your country of choice (England, France, The Netherlands, or Spain). Your goal is  to colonize the new world, America or a randomly generated landmass. You home country send you colonist when you amass enough religious support (cross production), you can get Indian to join your colony has well and recruit colonist in your motherland with cold hard cash. The main aspect of the game is managing your colonist inside the various cities of your colonies to establish relations or war with other colony and native.

The graphic are inspired by the second installment of the series civilization.

They recently Released a new version if you want to give it a try.

Developer ektomarch started a Kickstarter campaign for Metroidvania style game called Aerannis.

In Aerannis, the protagonist a female assassin that lives in the last city on earth. The game will be set in an open ended world that you can explore freely, you advance by doing mission. Also the game has a stealth element where you hide to either take hostage, run behind a guard etc.

They managed to hit the initial goal but there still are some stretch goals that are left and there is currently only 13 days left to the campaign.

The Ruins of Old Earth

If you liked the initial Metroid you will like this dark, moody pixelated atmosphere that will makes you remember the first Metroid game. The ruins of old earth take place well we don’t know yet, it seems that you are in an undiscovered region of Earth and you have to explore that harsh & wild region of the underground of Earth. Our hero can have a jetpack (not sure if he actually start with it), and three type of gun (beam, pulse, lazer) .
